free inventory utility (spiceworks)

Has anyone used spiceworks I.T. management suite? It's a free solution that allows I.T. staff to inventory hardware, software, create tickets using their help desk package, and perform some network monitoring. It's free!!! Does anyone have an opinion on this product? Their website is www.spiceworks.com. Thanks in advance.

Yep, been using it for a couple of years. I run it on a VM on one of my ESXi servers. I use it for the inventory part and it does a great job of scanning the entire network and making a list of all of your equipment. The built in inventory reports are kind of cool. I do not use the help desk portion since I'm a one-man-band.

I use this as well, on your suggestion. After some fiddling with my Windows firewalls, it runs fantastically on one of my servers. I agree with Brian, the inventory taking is fantastic.

I have just started to use it and am hoping to use it for a help desk solution - if it is easy enough to use I would like to be able to have a process to track trouble tickets.

This is the 3td year I've had it and I love it. Ditto everything Brian said. It is becoming the only way to do trouble tickets in our district so Admin can track services, plan for training and it's our exclusive inventory tool. I'm also a single tootle in the band...but it helps me prioritize as I move between buildings.

Hello John, The product I use is Packettrap (packettrap.com). I keep it running during the day to monitor what is going on wiht my network and critical servers, switches.
